Portuguese Wine & Peanut M&Ms
I bought a Portuguese wine yesterday at the wine shop I work at and I discovered a very tasty pairing. I had a glass of 2003 Monte Seis Reis "Boa Memoria,' a dry vinho tino/red wine from Portugal, with some peanut M&Ms. The wine has nutty and chocolate characteristics, which mingle well with the sweet & savory, salty, nutty characteristics of the yummy all-American chocolate candy. Unfortunately, if you drink the wine by itself after the food pairing, it seems harsher and more tannic than it did before. So I guess the moral of the story is...just keep eating the M&Ms :-)

An interesting combination of and something I'd like to add to my work on Wine Pairing 101.
